Charles was out of town from May-August and I was really lonely. During this time I found a few new hobbies to occupy my time. One of them was planting random stuff. I have had these seeds forever that we bought from the Springs Preserve so I decided to plant them. I found old pots around the house and made an herb garden. These plants are out of control!! I planted cat nip for Jasper (our little fat cat) and parsley and mint (I think. We still don't know what it is). Having your own garden saves on waste at the grocery store because of packaging, etc. I really wish I could have a REAL garden. But, since I live in Las Vegas... this will do.
I save a lot of random items that most people throw away. I figure that one day I will use it for something! Today, Charles and I used a bunch of kitty litter buckets that I stored up and started a little outside garden. Once it starts to grow I will post pictures.
So my challenge for myself this week or anyone who is reading is to pay attention to the things you throw away. Most things can be recycled like, cardboard packaging, paper, ads sent in the mail, etc. Soooo RECYCLE!
I'll end with a picture of Jasper....

"Trash" Art- Newspaper
I have a new love for making things out of trash. It is beautiful, I can hang it in my home and save money on decorations. But, most of all I am throwing away less trash!
This is a painting I made from an old book and newspaper.
(It's small but I don't really know how to use my blog yet)
Update: I guess you can just click the picture LOL.. I feel dumb now!
Amanda's Rant: Paper Towels
I always come home and rant to Charles about things and he always says I need a blog called "Amanda's Rants".. so I named this entry for him!!
When I am at school everyday I always notice the trash cans overflowing with paper towels. I really will never understand why most of the bathrooms don't have hand dryers. Or, if there are hand dryers people will never use them (I am guilty of this!)
A couple months ago I decided to just stop using paper towels. I am definitely not this hardcore eco-friendly person.. yet. But, not using paper towels is an easy way to save trees. So I decided to stop.
I use hand dryers in bathrooms. Or, I honestly dry my hands on my clothes. But, at home I use a towel that I hang below the kitchen sink. This is an easy way to conserve. Reusable is always the way to go with everything because you can... reuse it! It saves money and there is less waste.

Welcome Earth Lovers!
Well, this is my new blog! I switched to blogspot because more of my friends have it! I am sure if you are seeing this right now you are a friend of mine. I appreciate anyone and everyone who reads my blog. Hopefully, a lot of people do because I am very passionate about the earth, nature and conservation.
The reason I named this blog "be free. live green" is because we are all free to choose how we want to live our lives. The choices that we make affect everyone and everything around us. I hope people who read this blog will choose to live green. This could be confusing but it makes sense to me!! :)
I honestly would love people to read this blog but I really am doing it for me. From being a college student and through numerous discussions in class I have come to realize that most people aren't very concerned with conservation. I am not perfect. But, I wanted to make this blog to show my progression towards my goal. My goal will never be reached because there is always room for improvement. But, I want to try in every way that I can to not be wasteful.
I also wanted to make this blog because I feel that there are many people that want to live a green life but they do not know where to start. I will post my ideas and the things that I have done to conserve as I go along on my journey.
I am very busy with school and life. But, in my free time I love to create things. I will use this blog to post random stuff that I create out of my favorite things... TRASH!
So, that's pretty much it! Thanks for reading.
